Got up early and had a wander down to the sea as we have an easy 30-35 mile return loop day ahead so no pressures and with no panniers.
John came down to see me and we then had breakfast of crackers tea and a cereal bar!
Took a leisurely ride North to find a phone signal.
Found one near a phone mast!! Phoned home.
Headed towards Baltasound.
Called to see Viking boat (Link) at Longhouse (Link) and met another cyclist who was also doing the same trip, and who is also staying at the hostel. He is going to climb the final summit up to Saxa Vord Station - a big climb.
We headed to Haroldswick and Hermaness RSPB site.
Parking our bike, we trekked for 45 minutes on a board path across the peat bogs to reach Hermaness cliffs and hopefully see puffins. We were blessed and the Puffins were still in residence. Pretty amazing so close up.
John saw his great skua (Locally known as Bonxies due to their habit of coming up behind people and bonking them painfully on the head with their heavy bills )!
Pretty amazing experience on the edge of a cliff so close to nature at its best…. wow.
Called at the old RAF base at Saxa Vord (Link), which is now a tourist centre with accommodation, for a cuppa and cake.
Afterwards in the glorious sun we went down to Northwick beach out of the wind and stayed for an hour sunbathing and paddling. Really precious time relaxing in the sun.
Back to Final Checkout shop for supplies and back to hostel for tea (soup and cake and chocolate!!)
Good news Mr Super Stalker was gone - thankfully!
After tea we went for a walk looking for otters without success!
Face timed girls. Having a lovely time. Another enjoyable day x
